So last weekend we had a very busy schedule of Jersey City activities planned. We started Saturday morning by volunteering at the cemetery we walk by all the time. Alicia believes in volunteering and is trying to make me a better person so I went along. We learned that the cemetery had been owned by some sketchy criminals in the past and they had stolen all the cemetery money. In 2008 people showed up on Mothers Day to leave flowers and the gates were locked and the grass was waist high. Since then a team of volunteers tries to upkeep the cemetery and honor those buried there. This is a photo of the ridge that we were working on. When we were there all the dirt had been reclaimed by a bamboo weed.
It was really hot and really hard work. But the other volunteers were very friendly and it was an overall good experience. That afternoon we had a more fun activity planned. Yelp was throwing a party at the new apartment complex The Maddox. It was still insanely hot out but we braved the heat for the free food and beer. Here is my beer on the rooftop and you can kind of see the Statue of Liberty in the background.
Alicia got a better shot of just the lady.
This was the view of the city from the rooftop. It was very pretty and we ate really good tacos and drank good beer from NJ Beer Company. We also got a bunch of granola bars for our bike ride the next day.
Then we went to Pint for a beer and a little trivia. We could not stay out too long because we had the Jersey City Ward Tour the next day.
We were up bright and early and down at the waterfront ready to go. You can't see in this picture but I am in flip flops, I also hadn't ridden my bike in a month, and as seen above I spent the day before stuffing my face and drinking beer. It was going to be an awesome ride on my little bike with no gears.
It was a great ride and I had a lot of fun and felt super proud of myself for finishing the about 15 miles.
Then we went to Barcade for beer and nachos. I won't lie I just kept thinking of nachos and beer for the last three miles of the ride.
Alicia also got a really good beer. After we had nachos we realized we needed sandwiches too. Then we went home and had a relaxing afternoon. After dinner we walked down to have some nice home made ice cream. This ended up being a major disappointment because they had neither of our favorite flavors. Alicia always goes pistachio. I always go strawberry. We ended up having root beer floats.
All in all it was a great Jersey City weekend. Volunteering, partying, and biking.
