Saison Home Brewing

So we have been so behind on home brewing that we needed to get our act together. Yesterday we finally got around to brewing a Jalapeno Saison. You can tell it's business time because I put my apron on.

I was a sanitizing machine and I honestly thought I would remember to sanitize everything at the beginning. This did not happen.

Luckily I kept my measuring cup of sanitizer ready to go.

We got the water to temperature and Alicia added the malts to the water.

Then she got to salsa making while I handled the mash.

Look at that joy radiating from the salsa maker. This expression is because I only gave her a half tomato to work with.

Despite the anger issue. She got to salsa making.

I ran to the corner store for additional tomato and we got to snacking. I was so flustered handling the mash and running to the store I totally mispoured Albert's beer and the head was huge. Luckily Albert is very forgiving and was still able to enjoy his beer.

The mash was done and it was time for the part my arms are to weak to handle. Separating the wort. Albert and Alicia handled this like champs.

After using every pot in the kitchen (thank you mom and dad for the pots) we finally had our wort separated out.

It was time for the boil. It was time for me to take over the beer while Alicia and Albert handled dinner.

Alicia makes awesome hamburger patties so she got to chopping onion for it.

Albert got to cubing cheese.

How awesome do these patties look?

Yeah they have bacon, cheese, and onion in them. All kinds of goodness.

Albert then got to grilling those awesome patties.

We sat around our firepit while I watched the timer for the boil. The pita burgers were awesome and the fire felt awesome on fall night. After eating it was back to brewing. Ice bath time. This step was easier at this apartment because we have an ice maker. Which is awesome.

We finally got it chilled and Alicia got it in the gallon jug. I added the yeast and Albert got to mixing.

Look how awesome it looks!

We put in the tubing and set it in the room to ferment for the next two weeks. I can't wait for bottling day when the goal is to brew again.

Oh and then we watched REVENGE! Which was awesome as always. I really hope Nolan's love interest does not screw him over because Nolan deserves happiness because he is my favorite character. The three of us are an awesome team that made brewing, grilling, Revenge watching possible.
